Sens Talk

Once a week I will post my random thoughts on all things Ottawa Senators. I'd like to begin with Jason Spezza, one of my favorite Sens all-time... to hate on! Yes, he tries to make those gawd damn drop passes all the time. And, yes he is a bit of a ghost on defense at times, including daytime, nighttime and dinnertime. Also, yes he makes 7 million dollars per year! But, what are our options? Trade him to Edmonton for a bunch of middle-tier players or trade him to Columbus for a pick and some contract money? Both of those options sound terrible to me, and don't think for a minute that Boston would trade their #2 pick for Spezza. They have two quality centers in Marc Savard and Patrice Bergeron so why the hell would they want Jason? I say keep Jason and get him some wingers.

Next: Anton Volchenkov. A solid defensive D-man, but that is it. If someone gives him 5 million per than good for him, but it won't be Ottawa. With a depth at defense in the system, plus Kuba under contract for a few more seasons, the A-train will likely be a casualty of the Cap. If we can sign and deal him or trade his rights, I am all for it.

Bottom line, Jason Spezza is a keeper and Anton Volchenkov is outta here.
